SALBIS participates in the collaboration between the University of Washington and the University of León
On Saturday June 26th, Pilar Marqués collaborated with Dr. Margo in a teaching experience with MBA students related to health policy. Marqués gave a presentation in which she introduced the Social Network Analysis (SNA) method. This method is one of the research lines of the SALBIS group. The title of his presentation was: The hidden power of structure: Social network analysis as a methodology for analysing contact patterns.
Marqués showed the fundamental points of network analysis and how the method can be applied to any context involving people and relationships. He gave some examples of the SALBIS group’s own research applying SNA to obesity, substance use or behaviors in healthcare organizations. He also showed other research results applying SNA to the context of terrorism, political campaigns or economic transactions.
After the presentation, there was an interesting discussion between students and professors. The students were very interested in the method as they saw a great application to their context. The whole group expressed the motivation to have another joint meeting, and if possible in person.
Pilar Marqués hopes to continue working with this group from the University of Washington. Several members of the SALBIS research group are participating in this collaboration. It is an action that favors the internationalization of the University of León.
