SALBIS participates and contributes to the organization of the First Annual Conference of IABiomed as Secretary of the Spanish Society for Artificial Intelligence in Biomedicine
On November 22, 2024, the Spanish Society for Artificial Intelligence in Biomedicine (IABiomed) successfully held its First Annual Conference at the Agricultural Building Auditorium of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). This event brought together experts, researchers, and professionals to discuss the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in the field of biomedicine.
José Alberto Benítez Andrades, Secretary of IABiomed and Associate Professor at the University of León, was part of the event’s organizing committee. The conference was structured into three thematic sessions:
- AI in disease prevention and diagnosis: Focused on practical applications such as ICU patient monitoring and the development of reliable systems for translational medicine.
- AI in the pharmaceutical sector: Highlighting advancements in drug discovery and repositioning, as well as modeling biological systems for new therapeutic targets.
- Ethical and regulatory challenges: Addressing algorithm validation, explainability of AI tools, and ethical responsibility in clinical settings.
With over 180 in-person attendees and more than 300 virtual participants, the event demonstrated the growing interest and importance of artificial intelligence in advancing biomedical sciences.
The success of this inaugural conference lays the groundwork for future IABiomed initiatives, solidifying its role as a driving force in integrating artificial intelligence into biomedicine for the benefit of society.
