SALBIS Research Group and internationalisation on the Ponferrada Campus with nursing students
Pilar Marqués promotes an experience of internationalisation together with Rubén García and Alberto González, with the third year nursing students of the University of León at the Ponferrada Campus. The meeting took place in the subject of Nursing Care Management and took place with Dr. Margo Bergman from the University of Washington-Tecoma.
Dr. Margo Bergman trained in Economics, specialising in Public Health. In her presentation she showed the nursing students the health inequalities in the USA. These inequalities are mainly based on per capita income and race. Obesity, tobacco use and poverty were highlighted in his presentation. She also highlighted the shortage of nurses and the intention of the US to import nurses, which was of particular interest to the students. After her presentation, several students took part in a relaxed and motivating discussion with Dr. Margo.
To conclude, Marqués thanked the students and Dr. Margo Bergman for this activity, which could be the first step towards closer ties between the two universities from the Ponferrada Campus.
This activity is part of the strategy of the Collaborative Online International Learning Program (COIL) promoted by the Vice Rectorate for Internationalization with the University of Washington, led by the Vice Rector Roberto Baelo and Santos Rodríguez Coordinator of the UW Center at the University of León. It is the first time that our nursing students have had direct contact at an international level. It was really gratifying, and we hope to repeat the experience.
