Natalia Arias, member of the SALBIS group, is awarded at the International Congress of Nursing and Health with a work related to bladder catheters
Natalia Arias, member of the SALBIS Group has been awarded in the section “Best Poster” in the II International Congress IV National Nursing and Health, held in Santander on 18, 19 and 20 October this year. The work presented refers to the use of a bladder ultrasound scanner as a safe instrument to prevent bladder catheterisation in cases of urinary retention in the Internal Medicine Hospital El Bierzo.
This scanner, acquired by the Unit thanks to Dr. Luis Corral, was acquired in March of this year, and since then the number of unnecessary catheters in patients with urinary retention has been reduced, as this instrument is used to calculate the bladder volume of the patient in milliliters. Although the difference was not significant compared to the period prior to the availability of the scanner, the primary objective of “no unnecessary catheterization” was met. After the success obtained, successive investigations on this subject will try to demonstrate their effectiveness in order to improve chronic patient care.
